Ginkgo Lanugo se ve své tvorbě nikdy neomezují na předem stanovené cíle nebo styly, ale nechávají vše plynout a vést se jakýmsi vnitřním hlasem, protože pak se mohou uvolnit a nechat emoce proudit ven bez omezení a škatulek. A přesně tak během času vzniklo EP Do Snů.
Během posledních dvou let se zvuk projektu Ginkgo Lanugo formuje a přelévá mezi styly ambient, techno, trip-hop, dub či breakbeat. Mají za sebou několik singlů a umístění na třetím místě v hitparádě Velká sedma na Radiu 1. Pravidelně také vystupují na festivalech a klubech.
Štěpán Perk se sólově věnuje ambientní hudbě – například pro festival Comic Con či pro vydavatelství Blue Lizard (Meditation Blue, 2023; Štěpán Perk meet Blue Lizard, 2023). Letos v květnu mu také vychází soundtrack k počítačové hře Šrot.
Nyní, dva roky od prvního oficiálního releasu, přicházejí Ginkgo Lanugo s prvním konceptuálním EP obsahujícím surrealistické texty, ambientní plochy či zlomené beaty různých rychlostí a barev. EP je inspirované snovými útržky. Abstraktně zpracovává téma snění, náhodnými i promyšlenými rýmy. Celé EP může být vnímáno jako odraz spánkového cyklu, kdy první skladby jsou více uspávající až po poslední Let’s Break, která by se dala vnímat jako budíček. Ve všech textech se vracejí k snové abstraktní krajině a svým niterným touhám a obavám.
K EP Do Snů vytvořili doprovodné videoklipy. Album je o snech a bdění, proto zvolili techniku víceexpozice, kdy se přes sebe překrývají různé záběry jako útržky snů a vzpomínek. Použité záběry jsou z jejich domácí dílny, z volně dostupných záběrů a od audiovizuálního umělce Kryštofa Peška. K dispozici je i delší video, obsahující všechny skladby, aby se dala atmosféra vstřebat bez přestávky.
GINKGO LANUGO
Projekt založili společně v roce 2019 DJ a producent Štěpán Perk a vokalistka Nikola Pavelková. Po prvních pokusech techna s živým vokálem začali vytvářet i poslechovější druhy elektronické hudby. Jejich první ambientní singly vyšly ve francouzském vydavatelství Camembert rec. a kanadském Paracelsian rec. Společně připravují v pražském Clubu Cross rezidentní noc se názvem Response. Název Ginkgo Lanugo symbolizuje oba hudebníky dva jako protiklady spojené vjedno. Mužský element ginkgo je nejstarší strom planety, z něhož se vyvinuly všechny další stromy, a lanugo je nejjemnější chmýří na těle vyvíjejícího se plodu jako symbol ženskosti.
MIME
Výtvarné dílo pro obal poskytl francouzský umělec Mime, žijící v Paříži. Mime čerpá své zdroje ze svých cest po antikvariátech. Podklady pak stříhá, ořezává a lepí koláže a busty ze všech časových období, všech epoch. Jeho hlavní inspirace: egyptská estetika, starověk, architektura v minulosti i současnosti.

Ginkgo Lanugo never restrict themselves to predetermined goals or styles in their work, but let everything flow and be guided by an inner voice, because then they can let loose and let the emotions flow out without restrictions or boxes. And that’s exactly how the Do Snů EP came about over time.
Over the last two years, Ginkgo Lanugo’s sound has been shaped and morphed between ambient, techno, trip-hop, dub and breakbeat styles. They have several singles under their belt and a third place in Radio 1’s Big Seven chart. They also regularly perform at festivals and clubs. Štěpán Perk has been working solo on ambient music – for example, for the Comic Con festival or for the Blue Lizard label (Meditation Blue, 2023; Štěpán Perk meet Blue Lizard, 2023). This May he also has a soundtrack for the computer game Šrot coming out.
Now, two years after their first official release, Ginkgo Lanugo come with their first conceptual EP containing surreal lyrics, ambient surfaces or broken beats of different speeds and colours. The EP is inspired by dream fragments. It abstractly handles the theme of dreaming, with random and thoughtful rhymes. The whole EP can be seen as a reflection of a sleep cycle, with the first tracks being more soporific to the last track Let’s Break, which could be seen as a wake-up call. In all the lyrics, they return to dreamy abstract landscapes and their inner desires and fears.
They have created accompanying music videos for the Into Dreams EP. The album is about dreams and waking, so they chose a multi-exposure technique where different shots are superimposed over each other like fragments of dreams and memories. The footage used is from their home workshop, from freely available footage and from audiovisual artist Kryštof Pešek. There is also a longer video, containing all the tracks, so that the atmosphere can be absorbed without interruption.
GINKGO LANUGO
They founded the project together in 2019 DJ and producer Štěpán Perk and vocalist Nikola Pavelková. After their first attempts at techno with live vocals, they started to create more listenable types of electronic music. Their first ambient singles were released on the French label Camembert rec. and Canada‘s Paracelsian rec. Together they are preparing a residency night called Response at Club Cross in Prague. The name Ginkgo Lanugo symbolizes the two musicians as opposites united in one. The masculine element ginkgo is the oldest tree on the planet from which all other trees have evolved, and lanugo is the finest fuzz on the body of a developing fetus as a symbol of femininity.
MIME
The artwork for the cover was provided by Mime, a French artist based in Paris. Mime draws his sources from his travels in antique shops. He then cuts, trims and glues collages and busts from all time periods, all eras. His main inspirations: the Egyptian aesthetic, antiquity, architecture past and present.
