Blue Lizard k jeho 25. narozeninám
Na albu Štěpán Perk meets Blue Lizard je živý záznam improvizace se skladbami z labelu Blue Lizard. Nejedná se ale o typicky DJ set Štěpána Perka, člena projektu Ginkgo Lanugo. Vybrané skladby z katalogu vydavatelství nejdříve roztřídil podle tónin a některé sekvence zasmyčkoval a následně transformoval nejčastěji pomocí granulárního delay/reverbu. Vznikly tak nové fragmenty, které byly poté živě namíchané do originálních skladeb. Celý mix živě nahrál pomocí programu Ableton Live na čtyřkanálový mix ověšeným dalšími efekty, které živě moduloval. Další čtyři send efekty živě dokreslují a rozšiřují prostor původních nahrávek.
Ve výsledné koláži B2L5R Medley se tak potkávají vybraní umělci, jejichž skladby se v průběhu 25 let objevily ve vydavatelství Blue Lizard: Kora et le Mechanix, Die Archa, Marek Šebelka, Michal Kořán, Miroslav Posejpal, Filip Homola, trio M/Á/J, Pavel Richter, Jaroslav Kořán, Benedikt, Alice Rose, Alekos Kufudakis, Vladan Malinjak, Night Note, Petr Nikl, Orloj snivců, Bharata Rajnošek, Marek Hanzlík a Fish Don’t Like Milk.
Podle Štěpána Perka mix záměrně nemá přesný tracklist. Jeho cílem je reflektovat a převyprávět příběh labelu Blue Lizard. Je to vyjádření pocty všem umělcům, kteří se vydali na cestu experimentování se zvukem a hledání nových možností v hudbě. Ale v první řadě jde o manifest a popření hranic těchto umělců, kteří se zde nepřímo spojují do jednoho velkého celku. A je to také oslava tohoto nezávislého vydavatelství, které před výdělek a líbivost klade na první místo vlastní kontakt s duší umělce a posluchače.
„Byl jsem velmi poctěn nabídkou uskutečnit tento výroční mix. Šel jsem na to po svém a vytvořil vlastní postup tvorby této nahrávky. Trvalo mi dlouho, než jsem byl s nahrávkou spokojen. Povedla se až na pátý pokus – nechtěl jsem totiž dělat žádné postprodukční úpravy. Během jednotlivých pokusů o nahrávání mi stále více docházelo, jací velikáni se účastní se mnou tohoto výletu. Jako mladší ročník jsem spíš orientovaný na elektronické pojetí ambientu. O to více mě uchvátilo, jak tito umělci dokáží pracovat s reálnými nástroji a vyloudit z nich zvuky velmi neobvyklé. Tato práce mě velmi inspirovala pro moji další tvorbu.“ — Štěpán Perk

Blue Lizard on his 25th birthday
The album Štěpán Perk meets Blue Lizard features a live recording of improvisation with tracks from the Blue Lizard label. However, this is not a typical DJ set by Štěpán Perk, a member of the Ginkgo Lanugo project. He first sorted the selected tracks from the label‘s catalogue by key and looped and then transformed some of the sequences, mostly using granular delay/reverb. This created new fragments that were then mixed live into the original tracks. He recorded the entire mix live using Ableton Live on a four-channel mix festooned with additional effects, which he modulated live. Four more send effects live illustrate and expand the space of the original recordings.
In the resulting B2L5R Medley collage, selected artists whose tracks have appeared on the Blue Lizard label over the course of 25 years meet: Kora et le Mechanix, Die Archa, Marek Šebelka, Michal Kořán, Miroslav Posejpal, Filip Homola, trio M/Á/J, Pavel Richter, Jaroslav Kořán, Benedikt, Alice Rose, Alekos Kufudakis, Vladan Malinjak, Night Note, Petr Nikl, Orloj snivců, Bharata Rajnošek, Marek Hanzlík and Fish Don‘t Like Milk.
According to Štěpán Perk, the mix deliberately does not have an exact tracklist. His aim is to reflect and retell the story of the Blue Lizard label. It is a tribute to all the artists who have embarked on a journey of experimentation with sound and the search for new possibilities in music. But first and foremost it is a manifesto and a denial of the boundaries of these artists, who are here indirectly merged into one big whole. And it‘s also a celebration of this independent label that puts its own contact with the soul of the artist and the listener before profit and appeal.
„I was very honoured to be asked to do this anniversary mix. I went about it in my own way and created my own process for making this record. It took me a long time to be satisfied with the recording. It only came out on the fifth try – because I didn‘t want to do any post-production editing. During the various recording attempts, it became increasingly clear to me what greats were participating with me on this trip. As a younger person, I‘m more oriented towards the electronic concept of ambient. I was all the more captivated by how these artists can work with real instruments and coax very unusual sounds out of them. This work has inspired me a lot for my future work.“
